Sporting KC is currently tied for first place in the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings with 25 points through 13 matches. Manager Peter Vermes’ men, who enter the month of June with a four-point lead atop the Western Conference, own six shutouts over their last nine games while ranking among the most prolific scoring teams in MLS.
The seven-game set that rounds out Sporting Kansas City’s 2018 home schedule begins July 28 with a visit from FC Dallas and ends on Oct. 28 when expansion side Los Angeles Football Club makes its inaugural trip to Children’s Mercy Park on Decision Day. After hosting 2016 Supporters’ Shield and U.S. Open Cup champion FC Dallas in late July, Sporting KC will welcome another pair of Western Conference foes in August. The Portland Timbers, winners of six straight games, come to Kansas City on Aug. 18 before Sporting KC faces Minnesota United FC on Aug. 25 in conjunction with the second annual Sporting Salutes, an immersive military appreciation night honoring servicemen and servicewomen across the country.
Former Sporting KC striker Dom Dwyer and Orlando City SC will visit Children’s Mercy Park in a marquee cross-conference clash on Sept. 8, three weeks before Sporting KC’s 2013 MLS Cup rematch with rivals Real Salt Lake on Childhood Cancer Awareness Day.
The final month of the regular season will see Sporting KC battle both Los Angeles clubs on home soil. International soccer icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the LA Galaxy come to Children’s Mercy Park on Oct. 6 ahead of the 2018 finale versus former Sporting KC midfielder Benny Feilhaber and LAFC on Oct. 28.
Sporting KC remains home this weekend for their second straight nationally televised showdown on FS1, hosting Minnesota United FC at 7:30 p.m. CT Sunday.
