July may have been a month to forget, but Sporting Kansas City is off to a flying start in August.
First came Saturday's crucial road win over the Houston Dynamo that snapped a six-game winless skid and saw 16-year-old Gianluca Busio become the third-youngest starter in MLS history and the second-youngest player to record an assist.
Then came Monday's trade with the New England Revolution, which sent forward Krisztian Nemeth back to Kansas City for his second stint with Sporting KC, having scored 16 goals for the club in a superb debut season in MLS three years ago.
Lastly, with just a few hours remaining in the MLS Secondary Transfer Window, Sporting KC added veteran Spanish defender Andreu Fontas, who has spent most of the last decade in Spain's top-flight La Liga and formerly played with midfielder Ilie Sanchez at FC Barcelona B.
With tons of positive news comes tons of positive chatter, and Sports Radio 810 WHB has been at the center of it all. At the forefront, Tuesday's new episode of The Sporting KC Show saw hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine catch up with both Nemeth and Busio. Nemeth reflected positively on his first spell in Kansas City and declared his excitement to begin another chapter with Sporting KC, while Busio recalled the events of Saturday's wild encounter with Houston and demonstrated a level of maturity well beyond his years.
Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star joined The Program on Tuesday afternoon to break down the Nemeth trade, the arrival of Fontas and what both acquisitions mean for Sporting KC heading into the stretch run of the season.
Sporting KC captain Matt Besler then made his customary appearance on The Border Patrol this morning, sharing his thoughts on the fresh faces to arrive at Pinnacle before looking ahead to Saturday's high-profile matchup with LAFC. The game will pit two teams tied for third place in the Western Conference with identical 10-6-6 records, set to kick off at 9:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest Plus, Sports Radio 810 WHB and ESPN Deportes KC 1480 AM.
