Radio Rewind: Johnny Russell super fan Irelynn White and Cal Williams join The Sporting KC Show

Chances are you've seen the clip by now.

In the aftermath of Sporting Kansas City's 3-0 win over the Portland Timbers on Saturday, forward Johnny Russell gifted his jersey to a 9-year-old birthday girl who had held up a sign for Russell all game long. The end result was a wonderfully touching moment caught on video, which quickly made its media rounds across the country.

That brings us to Tuesday's new episode of The Sporting KC Show, in which hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine spoke with the lucky fan, Irelynn White, and her mother, Andrea White.

Irelynn could hardly believe what was happening in the moment, while Andrea said she's relieved that Sporting KC captured the moment on video. When Russell began approaching them on Saturday night, she thought she hit the record button on her phone, but it didn't work. In a twist of humor, Irelynn and Andrea were also amazed at how good Russell's jersey smelled after the game.

In the second segment of the episode, Bukaty and Augustine caught up with Minnesota United FC play-by-play man Cal Williams, who previously worked at Sporting KC from 2011-2014. Williams provided a preview of this Saturday's match at Children's Mercy Park, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City Plus, FOX Sports Midwest Plus, FOX Sports GO, Sports Radio 810 WHB and ESPN Deportes KC 1480 AM.

The podcast below also gives a comprehensive breakdown of Sporting KC's recent performances, bolstered by a stingy backline that has posted three straight shutouts and a red-hot forward in Diego Rubio.
