VOTE: Johnny Russell for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week

Johnny Russell's solo stunner amidst a steady downpour at Children's Mercy Park won't soon be forgotten.


Saturday's electrifying equalizer a pulsating 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy saw Russell weave his way past four defenders before curling into the far corner, giving Sporting Kansas City the requisite point to seal a spot in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.


It will come as little surprise, then, that Russell's brilliant strike is one of fife nominees for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week. Fans can click here to cast their vote in the MLSsoccer.com poll between now and Thursday at 2 a.m. CT.



Russell, who has joined the Scotland Men's National Team this week for the resumption of the 2018-19 UEFA Nations League, has scored a team-best nine MLS goals and 11 in all competitions during an excellent debut season with Sporting KC. He then intends to join the team in Vancouver for its next MLS fixture against the Whitecaps, slated for 9 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Oct. 17.


Tickets for Sporting KC’s first potential home playoff match at Children’s Mercy Park are now on sale via SeatGeek.com. Sporting KC Season Ticket Members will automatically retain their seats for all playoff matches, excluding the MLS Cup final, and can contact their Client Services Executive for questions and further information. If Sporting KC does not host a match in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, all individuals who purchased tickets through SeatGeek will be automatically refunded.


With a playoff spot secured, Sporting KC will now battle for seeding in the Western Conference heading into the final three games of the regular season. The top two finishers in the West will earn Knockout Round byes to the conference semifinals, playing away in the first leg on Nov. 4 before hosting the decisive second leg on Nov. 11. The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will host single-elimination Knockout Round matches on Oct. 31 or Nov. 1 against the No. 6 and No. 5 seeds, respectively.
