Big 12 Soccer Championship final at Swope

Sporting Kansas City defeated LAFC 2-1 yesterday at Children's Mercy Park to finish atop the Western Conference regular season standings and secured a No. 1 seed in the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. Manager Peter Vermes' side has earned a Knockout Round bye and will begin its postseason campaign in the two-legged Western Conference Semifinals, playing on the road this Sunday prior to hosting the decisive second leg on Sunday, Nov. 11, at Children's Mercy Park.


Sporting KC will face the lowest-seeded team to emerge from the Western Conference Knockout Round, with No. 4 FC Dallas hosting No. 5 Portland Timbers on Wednesday and No. 3 LAFC hosting No. 6 Real Salt Lake on Thursday. Opponent, kickoff time and broadcast details for Sporting KC's conference semifinal matchup on Sunday will be confirmed Thursday night at the end of the Knockout Round.


Tickets for Sporting KC’s first home playoff match on Sunday, Nov. 11, are now on sale via SeatGeek.com. Season Ticket Members have first right to their seats for all playoff matches, excluding the MLS Cup final, and can contact their Client Services Executive for questions and further information.


Before kicking off their postseason campaign, Sporting KC will train at 10 a.m. CT Tuesday through Friday at Pinnacle (1913 Pinnacle Way, Kansas City, KS). A new episode of The Sporting KC Show will air at 8 p.m. CT Tuesday on Sports Radio 810 WHB with hosts Nate Bukaty and Carter Augustine. The duo will recap Sporting KC's thrilling 2-1 win over LAFC, hearing from multiple players who took part in the victory, and preview the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.


Sporting KC and Children's Mercy will showcase their Red Card: Call It When You See It anti-bullying campaign with a pair of school assemblies this week in Kansas City, Kansas. Sporting KC defender Andreu Fontas will visit Central Middle School (925 Ivandale St.) at 2 p.m. CT Tuesday, while another Sporting KC player will visit Rosedale Middle School (3600 Springfield St.) at 2 p.m. CT Thursday.


On Wednesday, Major League Soccer will announce the three finalists for each of its 2018 year-end awards, including Landon Donovan MLS MVP, Defender of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year and Coach of the Year. Sporting KC's Tim Melia is the defending MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, while teammate Ike Opara is the reigning MLS Defender of the Year.


Sporting KC midfielder Roger Espinoza and forward Daniel Salloi are two of five finalists for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week. Espinoza's long-range blast opened the scoring on Sunday before Salloi's late strike sealed the win. Fan voting is open at MLSsoccer.com through Wednesday night.


The Sporting KC Academy U-15s will continue their U.S. Soccer Development Academy season at 10 a.m. CT Saturday, hosting the San Antonio FC U-15s at Swope Soccer Village. Children's Mercy Victory Field at Swope Soccer Village will play host to the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship semifinals and finals this weekend. Friday's semifinal doubleheader will see Baylor face Texas Tech at 4:30 p.m. CT and West Virginia meet Texas at 7 p.m. CT. The winners will then square off in Sunday's final at 2:30 p.m. CT with the Big 12 title up for grabs. Fans can purchase match tickets at the stadium box office prior to kickoff or by calling 816-389-4193.
