The Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs saw several star players shine under the brightest of lights.
Matt Besler and Johnny Russell were no exception, as the Sporting Kansas City duo were selected to the Audi Player Index Team of the Playoffs on Tuesday.
It comes as little surprise that MLS Cup finalists Atlanta United FC and the Portland Timbers led the way with four players apiece on the 11-man squad, but Sporting KC and the New York Red Bulls were also represented.
In his 10th season with Sporting KC, Besler captured arguably the best form of his professional career during the stretch run of 2018. He was particularly strong in the playoffs, where he amassed eight interceptions, 24 clearances and won 28 duels over the course of four matches.
Russell ended a sublime debut campaign with 12 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, becoming the fourth player in club history to record double-digit goals and assists in a single MLS season. He ranked second among playoff performers with nine dribbles completed, also creating five scoring chances with 30 duels won throughout the postseason.
