Sporting KC forward Erik Hurtado undergoes successful surgery on right knee

Sporting Kansas City forward Erik Hurtado will be sidelined for two to three months after undergoing successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

The surgery was performed Tuesday under the care of Sporting KC’s chief medical officer Dr. Scott Luallin at Truman Medical Center – Lakewood Hospital in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

Hurtado, 28, joined Sporting in December after spending his first six MLS seasons with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He has made three appearances in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League, helping Sporting reach the tournament semifinals for the first time in club history.

Sporting will continue their 2019 MLS campaign on March 30, facing the Montreal Impact in a 2 p.m. CT kickoff at Children’s Mercy Park. The club will then continue its pursuit of the Champions League title, visiting Mexican giants CF Monterrey in the semifinal first leg on April 4 before hosting the decisive second leg on April 11 at 8 p.m. CT.
