Former Sporting winger Sal Zizzo announces retirement

Former Sporting Kansas City winger Sal Zizzo officially announced his retirement from professional soccer on Tuesday, ending an 11-year professional career that included 174 MLS appearances and a 2018 MLS Cup title in his final season with Atlanta United FC.


Zizzo, 32, turned pro in 2007 with German club Hannover after a stellar college career at UCLA. He returned stateside in 2010 and forged an MLS career that included stops with Sporting (2014) as well as Chivas USA (2010), Portland Timbers (2011-13), New York Red Bulls (2015-17) and Atlanta (2018).


Zizzo leaves the game as an MLS champion and a 2015 Supporters' Shield winner with the Red Bulls. He also left an indelible mark as Benny Feilhaber's savvy sidekick in the epic Benny Feilhaber Show YouTube series.
