Josh Klingler of 610 Sports Radio has launched The Nutmeg Podcast, taking fans behind the scenes with some of their favorite players and others around the club who have helped Sporting experience success on and off the pitch in Kansas City and in Major League Soccer.
In the pilot episode of the podcast, Klingler caught up with Leawood, Kansas, native and 11-year MLS veteran Seth Sinovic, who is in the midst of his ninth season at Sporting. The duo discuss Sinovic’s status as a hometown hero, having represented his boyhood club since 2011, before shifting gears to discuss the world-class Pinnacle training facility were Sporting practices on a daily basis.
“From time to time, you think back about the time when this club was the Wiz and the Wizards. To see where it is today, and to be a part of that for the last nine years, it’s been a crazy journey,” Sinovic said.
“It starts up top with the ownership group and how much they have invested in the club,” Sinovic said when asked what has made Sporting such a successful organization over the last decade. “A lot of owners purchase teams and it’s not a passion for them to win or be super involved in the city.
“Our owners are passionate, involved and want to win. The infrastructure they have put in place for us to succeed is evident. They have also put the right pieces in place with Peter Vermes, the coaching staff and the players. Our fans are also a huge part of it as as well. When the owners built the stadium, fan experience was one of their key priorities. I think they hit the nail on the head.”
