College Invitational Combine Day 3: Defense on display in final doubleheader

College Invitational Combine action shot 2 - Nov. 13, 2020

The 2020 College Invitational Combine concluded on Sunday with the final doubleheader of the three-day event at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri, featuring the country's best college soccer players divided into four teams named after Sporting Legends.

Team Hunt wrapped up an unbeaten run at Children's Mercy Victory Field with a 1-0 victory over Team Johnston on Sunday morning. Saint Louis University goalkeeper Patrick Schulte did well to deal with the windy conditions and recorded his second clean sheet in as many days.

On the opposite end of the field, California State University Northridge's Daniel Trejo struck for the game's only goal in the 28th minute. Trejo dispossessed his defender and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper with a shot inside the far post.

In the final fixture of the weekend, Team Gansler and Team Conrad played to a scoreless draw over the course of 70 minutes of action. The defensive deadlock was highlighted by shutouts from University of Denver goalkeeper Will Palmquist and Connecticut College goalkeeper AJ Marcucci.

The 2020 College Invitational Combine served as a new player identification platform for clubs in Major League Soccer and the United Soccer League ahead of the 2021 season. Technical staff members and scouts representing MLS and USL clubs across the United States and Canada traveled to Kansas City for the inaugural event.
