Recap: Sporting KC II falls 3-0 to Austin FC II

Recap

Sporting Kansas City II (2-9-3, 10 points) suffered a 3-0 defeat against Austin FC II (7-1-3, 25 points) on Friday night at Victory Field. Austin found the back of the net twice in the first half on goals from Diego Abarca and Ibrahima Sall before Marcel Ruszel added the third in the second.

Three minutes in, Jacob Molinaro made his first save, dropping down low to block Sall's first shot from inside the six with an outstretched leg. Abarca opened the scoring in the 14th with a close-range finish after a ball played over the top from Riley Thomas.

Sall scored his goal 10 minutes later, diving to meet a low cross taken from the right side of the field by Jorge Alastuey. Missael Rodriguez went on the attack and nearly pulled one back for SKC II in the 27th minute but was denied by both Austin's goalkeeper Erik Lauta and the right side of the woodwork.

Molinaro made another save 35 minutes into the contest, blocking a left footed effort from Sall before Pierre Lurot cleared the danger. Soon after Shane Donovan saw his first shot of the night saved, the halftime whistle blew.

Out of the break, Kashan Hines received a centering pass and rolled a shot barely wide of the mark after being put off by a late, sliding defender. He was played in on goal two minutes later, but again a defender affected his shot, leading to a comfortable save for Lauta.

Tega Ikoba and Carter Derksen entered the match in the 57th, replacing Hines and Gael Quintero. Ikoba almost immediately made his mark on the game, rising above traffic to head a ball goalward which was just tipped over the crossbar. Marcel Ruszel tapped in a cross from Stefan Dobrijevic to give Austin a 3-0 lead in the 66th.

Head coach Lee Tschantret made two more changes, bringing on Ty Haas Johann Ortiz and gave Sam Worcester his professional debut as he replaced Daniel Russo. Ikoba had a pair of late chances narrowly miss the mark in the 86th and 88th. His first was an acrobatic scissor kick sent over the bar with the second a shot saved by Lauta.

Sporting KC II will close out their jam-packed month of May with a trip to Herriman, Utah for a matchup with Real Monarchs. Kickoff for the Friday night showdown is set for 9 p.m. CT and will air live on MLSNEXTPro.com and in the OneFootball app.
