SKC II Preview: Sporting KC II concludes 2026 season on Sunday at Dynamo Dos

Sporting Kansas City II will conclude the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season on Sunday against Houston Dynamo 2 at StarFire Stadium in Houston, Texas. The game will commence simultaneously with the rest of the Western Conference Decision Day fixtures at 4 p.m. CT and can be streamed at MLSNEXTPro.com and in the OneFootball app.

Houston has already locked up a top four spot in the Western Conference and will host in the first round of the MLS NEXT Pro Cup Playoffs. The last time these two sides met, Sporting put an end to Houston's four match unbeaten run, besting them 3-2 at Victory Field on July 31.

Forward Kashan Hines bagged his first professional brace and added an assist on Missael Rodriguez's game-winner.

Rodriguez comes into Decision Day second on SKC II in goals scored with seven, tied with Hines. Tega Ikoba leads the team with eight, however, Rodriguez has two assists giving him a team-best nine goal contributions. Shane Donovan has seven goal contributions, netting four goals and adding three assists.

Holding down the midfield is the trio of Blaine Mabie, Gael Quintero and Trevor Burns. Mabie has started 20 of 23 appearances this season, scoring once. Quintero has 18 starts, 24 appearacnes and 1 goal as well. Burns emerged later in the season and has appeared in six straight matches. He is tied for second on the team in assists.

Pierre Lurot has been steady in head coach Lee Tschantret's back four. He has played every minute of every game, one of just two players to do so across the first 27 games. The other centerback spot has seen a rotation of Luca Antongirolami, Mitch Ferguson and first teamer Diego Borges.

Antongirolami will not be available for selection on Sunday as he will be with the US U-17s for a training camp in Spain. SKC II will get back midfielder Zamir Loyo Reynaga who returns from international duty with Mexico's U-16s.

Houston, led by head coach Jeremy Hurdle, are bouyed by forward Austin Brummett and his 11 goals. The 22-year-old forward has scored two goals in three games against SKC II this season.
