Sporting Kansas City II will continue their road trip along the pacific coast with a Monday night matchup with the Tacoma Defiance at Starfire Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CT and the game will air live on MLSNEXTPro.com and in the OneFootball app.
These two sides last met in May, playing to a 2-2 draw at Victory Field in Kansas City, Missouri. Shane Donovan notched his first professional brace in the contest, helping SKC II come from behind twice to earn a home point.
Donovan ranks second on the team in goal contributions, racking up four goals and three assists in his second season as a pro. The SKC Academy product also ranks second on the team in starts (22) and minutes played (1897). Only Pierre Lurot has more minutes played as the centerback has been on the field for every minute of SKC II's campaign.
Kashan Hines leads the team in goals scored. The forward has found the back of the net seven times as an Academy amateur player. Fellow Academy forward Ty Haas netted his second goal of the season in Sporting's last match, a 2-1 defeat at LAFC 2 on Thursday night. Haas also has one assist.Â
Close behind Hines in the goal category are forwards Tega Ikoba and Missael Rodriguez, both with six goals. Rodriguez has also added two assists in his 23 appearances.Â
Holding down the midfield for Lee Tschantret's squad this year has been Gael Quintero and Blaine Mabie. Both defensive minded midfielders have scored once this year and provided a steady hand in the middle of the pitch. Quintero has started 16 of 21 appearances while Mabie, co-captain with Lurot, has 16 starts and 19 appearances.
Tacoma is guided by former Swope Park Rangers head coach and 2013 MLS Cup Champion Paulo Nagamura. The former Sporting KC midfielder has the Defiance in the seventh spot in the Western Conference heading into the home stretch of the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season. Their top scorer, Mark Bronnik has 11 goals and three assists, tied for fifth in MLS NEXT Pro for goals scored.
SKC II's West Coast tour concludes on Sunday, Aug. 30 with a game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 at Swangard Stadium. Kansas City has earned three straight results over Vancouver dating back to last season.
