Sporting Kansas City II announced today that the club has signed Sporting Kansas City Academy midfielder Brixton Welsh to an MLS NEXT Pro amateur contract ahead of tomorrow's game against St. Louis CITY2.
The 16-year-old Academy player will be eligible to play in Sporting KC II's three remaining games this season on an amateur basis, preserving his NCAA eligibility.
Welsh joined the Sporting KC Academy ahead of the 2024-25 MLS NEXT season after joining the U-14s for Cronos Cup, Easter International Cup and Patterson Cup in 2023 and 2024. Welsh helped the U-14s take home first place at Easter International and finish second at Patterson Cup in 2024. The midfielder has represented Sporting's U-15s, U-16s and U-18s helping the 15s qualify for the 2025 MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs with a perfect showing at MLS NEXT Flex in Boyds, Maryland.Â
