Sporting KC II goalkeeper Brooks Thompson up for USL Championship Save of the Year

UPDATE: Sporting Kansas City II goalkeeper Brooks Thompson has reached the final round of voting for the USL Championship's Fans' Choice Save of the Year. His superb reaction stop on July 18 kept out Nick Moon's header from point-blank range in a narrow 2-1 loss at Indy Eleven as the Indiana native made a career-high nine saves on the night.

That play, also nominated for USL Championship Save of the Week and Save of the Month earlier in the season, is now up against Charleston Battery's Joe Kuzminsky in the championship round of the online bracket. Fan voting for the final round is open until 11 a.m. CT on Tuesday, Dec. 1.

VOTE: Brooks Thompson for Save of the Year in USL Championship

Thompson, 18, signed with Sporting KC II in March 2019 as the youngest player to sign a professional contract in team history. The Sporting KC Academy product made his professional debut in a 4-3 win at Children's Mercy Park in July 2019. In 2020, Thompson recorded a team-best 24 saves in six starts for Sporting KC II with a 1.17 goals against average.
