Sporting KC II signs defender Mikey Lenis to MLS NEXT Pro professional contract

Sporting KC II signs Mikey Lenis

Sporting Kansas City II announced today that the club has signed Academy product Mikey Lenis to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract that officially begins on June 1.

A versatile outside back, Lenis has started five MLS NEXT Pro matches for Sporting Kansas City II this season and opened his professional scoring account at Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on April 24. He featured in six USL Championship matches for the club last year and has trained extensively with the Sporting KC first team over the last two seasons.

Born and raised in Florida, Lenis moved to his mother's hometown of Kansas City in early 2017. He joined the Sporting KC Academy at that time and went on to represent the club at the U-17 and U-19 levels. As a youth, he also earned call-ups to the United States boys' national team in the U-14 and U-16 age groups.

Led by first-year head coach Benny Feilhaber, Lenis and Sporting KC II (4-4-1, 13 points) have posted three straight victories and will look to continue their winning ways on Sunday when they host Whitecaps FC 2 (4-2-3, 16 points) at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas. Tickets are available at SeatGeek.com and the contest will stream live on mlsnextpro.com.
