Sporting KC II signs SKC Academy forward Ryan Reid to MLS NEXT Pro amateur contract

SKC II Player Signings (multiple players)

Sporting Kansas City II announced today that the club has signed Sporting Kansas City Academy forward Ryan Reid to an MLS NEXT Pro amateur contract.

MLS NEXT Pro amateur contracts are on a single-game basis, preserving Reid's NCAA eligibilities. He will be available for selection on Sunday for Sporting Kansas City II's trip to Denver for a meeting with Colorado Rapids 2.

Reid, an 18-year-old forward from Leawood, Kansas, has represented Sporting at the U-12 through U-19 levels since joining the Academy in 2017 as a Sporting Blue Valley product. He made an immediate impact, earning tournament MVP honors when Sporting's U-12s took home the 2018 Generation adidas Cup under head coach Colby Childress. Reid landed another individual accolade at the end of 2019, leading the U-14s to a second-place finish at the prestigious Copa Rayados Internacional in Houston as the tournament's most outstanding player.

Reid was among Sporting's top goal scorers in the U-15 and U-17 age groups throughout 2020 and 2021, playing a leading role in the club's inaugural MLS NEXT season, before earning a preseason training opportunity with Sporting's first team at the start of 2022 in Arizona. This will be Reid's second bout with SKC II as the forward logged five appearances and one start in MSL NEXT Pro's inaugural season in 2022.

Sporting Kansas City II is back on the road this weekend, facing Colorado Rapids 2 in a Frontier Division matchup at The University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The match will stream live on MLSNEXTPro.com and the MLS YouTube channel and kicks off at 8:30 p.m. CT.
