U-16 Head Coach
Matt Busch joined Sporting Kansas City in April 2021 as the Director of Coaching for the Sporting City - West Region before transitioning to the Sporting KC Academy in the fall of 2026 as Head Coach of the U-16s. He brings more than 25 years of coaching experience at the youth, academy, collegiate pathway, and semi-professional levels in the United States.
Prior to joining Sporting Kansas City, Busch spent 16 years in Virginia, serving as Director of Coaching for Atlantic Soccer Club and Virginia Rush from 1999 to 2016. In 2016, he moved to Atlanta to become the Executive Director and MLS NEXT Academy Director for Inter Atlanta FC, where he led the club through its inaugural MLS NEXT season while overseeing all technical and operational aspects of the academy until 2021.
Throughout his coaching career, Busch has worked within some of the highest levels of youth development in the United States, including the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA), ECNL, ODP and MLS NEXT. He has also coached at the semi-professional level with the Hampton Roads Piranhas in the USL Premier Development League (PDL) and Virginia Beach City FC in the NPSL.
In addition to his club responsibilities, Busch serves as a U.S. Soccer Coaching Education Instructor, helping educate and develop coaches through the U.S. Soccer A-Youth License program. Originally from New York City, Busch began his playing career in Virginia before continuing to compete while serving in the United States military. He holds a U.S. Soccer A License and the U.S. Soccer Academy Director License.
