Academy Goalkeeper Coach
ACADEMY GOALKEEPER COACH Mauricio Vargas serves as the Academy Goalkeeper Coach, where he is responsible for the development of the U18, U16, and U15 goalkeepers. He joined the Sporting Kansas City Academy in February 2026.
Vargas graduated from Friends University, where he later began his coaching career as an assistant and goalkeeper coach. He also served as Director of Goalkeeping at FC Wichita, overseeing goalkeeper development across multiple age groups.
As a player, Vargas accomplished a professional career highlighted by appearances in the FIFA U17 and FIFA U20 World Cups with Costa Rica. He made his professional debut with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the USL Championship, and competed for several clubs in Costa Rica and Spain, including Liga Deportiva Alajuelense, C.S. Herediano, A.D. Guanacasteca, C.S. Carmelita and Albacete Balompié.
