Sporting KC has acquired goalkeeper
Alex Riggs
on loan from St. Louis FC for Wednesday’s match against FC Dallas in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.

Riggs, 27, played collegiately at Missouri State University from 2006-2010 and earned Missouri Valley Conference honors as Defensive Player of the Year (2009) and Goalkeeper of the Year (2010). In 64 appearances (28-25-10) for the Bears, Riggs recorded 279 saves, 23 shutouts and a 0.93 goals against average.

He began his professional career with the Columbus Crew in 2011 as a teammate of Sporting KC midfielder Bernardo Anor and most recently signed with St. Louis FC prior to the start of the 2015 United Soccer League season. Riggs was on the bench during Sporting Kansas City’s 1-0 victory over St. Louis FC two weeks ago at Sporting Park in the U.S. Open Cup fourth round.

Sporting Kansas City will continue the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup campaign at 7:30 p.m. CT tomorrow when the team hosts FC Dallas in a Round of 16 match-up at Sporting Park. A limited number of tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com and the match is included as Special Game A in season ticket packages.
