On This Day: Three special St. Patrick's Day moments for Sporting Kansas City

Today is St. Patrick's Day, a cultural and religious holiday celebrated by millions of people across the United States and throughout the world.

Sporting Kansas City has played on March 17 three previous times, and all three occasions have delivered absolute magic on the pitch. Although St. Patrick's Day won't be nearly as festive this year, nobody can stop us from looking back on this trio of moments with eternal fondness.

Let's jump right in.

2012: Props to Kei and C.J.

A pulsating 2012 home opener at Children's Mercy Park saw Sporting cruise to a 3-0 victory over the New England Revolution. The unquestioned high point came in the 39th minute when Kei Kamara scored in front of the Cauldron and proceeded to engage in a prop-heavy St. Paddy's Day dance alongside teammate C.J. Sapong. The celebration is showcased in the video above and the full match highlights are below.

2018: Graham Zusi for President

Sporting were well on their way to a record-setting offensive campaign by mid-March in 2018. Their wild 3-2 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at Children's Mercy Park was chock full of action, but Graham Zusi's left-footed scorcher took the cake for best play of the game. It also prompted play-by-play announcer Nate Bukaty to wisely declare his endorsement of Zusi as the country's next president.

2019: Johnny Russell Saves the Day

A year ago today, Sporting looked destined for a frustrating 1-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park—that is, until Johnny Russell came off the bench and salvaged a point with a brilliant free kick in the dying embers.
