Erik Thommy's wonderous volley one of four finalists for AT&T Goal of the Week

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Erik Thommy is one of four nominees for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week for his remarkable volley inside the 18 in Sporting KC's 4-2 win over the LA Galaxy, Saturday night at Children's Mercy Park.

Thommy's skillful score that put Sporting out in front early is up against goals from the San Jose Earthquakes' Paul Marie and LAFC's Gareth Bale and Chicho Arango. Fans can cast their vote in the Twitter poll below.

In just his second Sporting KC start, Thommy scored his first Sporting goal in style. In the 10th minute of Saturday's match, Sporting worked the ball forward well starting with Daniel Salloi playing Willy Agada from midfield into the attacking third. Salloi got back on the ball and dropped it off to Roger Espinoza who chipped the ball over to Thommy. The German midfielder brought the ball down smoothly with his chest, fired a shot with his right and beat Jonathon Bond, blasting it past the keeper.

Throughout the rest of the match, Thommy put in a stellar shift, serving up two successful crosses, entering the attack seven times, pressuring the ball 37 times and completing 85.7 percent of his passes in the attacking half.

Sporting KC will be away from home for a brief moment as they take on Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on Saturday, August 13 at 8 p.m. CT. They will return to Kansas City and Children's Mercy Park for a pair of home matches against the Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes to close out the month of August.
