Erik Thommy selected to MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Erik Thommy was named to the MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi on Monday after playing a key role in Sporting KC's 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday Night.

The German midfielder cracks the Team of the Week starting XI for the first time in his brief MLS career after joining Sporting in July. Thommy debuted for the club against LAFC on July 23 and has gone on to start five of six appearances regular season appearances, scoring twice. The newcomer has helped Sporing to three wins in his five starts, including back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Saturday, Thommy earned his third consecutive start after scoring against Portland a week prior. In the 10th minute, his wonderous turn at midfield left Earthquakes defender Tommy Thompson in his dust, leading to Daniel Salloi's goal which would prove to be the contest's only score.

Throughout Saturday's fixture, Thommy caused headaches for the visitors firing six shots and generating four chances, both match-highs. He showed his precision passing, accumulating a 96.7 percent passing accuracy on 58 passes. In the defensive third, the 28-year-old won nine duels and eight recoveries, playing a major role in Sporting's clean sheet.
