MLS 2021 Primary Transfer window open through June 1

While all 27 MLS clubs have been busy building toward the 2021 season with roster moves and additions, the actual window to sign players had not yet opened.

That changes today, March 10, when the Primary Transfer Window officially begins and runs through June 1.

  • Primary Transfer Window: Wednesday, March 10 – Tuesday, June 1, 2021
  • Secondary Transfer Window: Wednesday, July 7 – Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021

The Primary Transfer Window was originally slated to run from Feb. 10 to May 4 but was pushed back four weeks due to the late start of the MLS regular season, which will kick off the weekend of April 17.

The transfer windows are the periods in which MLS teams can officially register any new players who were previously under contract with clubs based outside MLS and for which an International Transfer Certificate (ITC) is required. While deals may be agreed upon outside these windows, the transfer and receipt of an ITC are required in order to officially add a player to a roster, thus allowing him to be eligible for official competitions.

All in-season trades between MLS clubs must take place within these transfer windows.
