Postgame Quotes: Swope Park Rangers 1-3 OKC Energy FC

Oliveira vs. OKC

Swope Park Rangers head coach Marc Dos Santos
On the game:

“Our last home performance was probably our best one (at) home. This one probably was our worst one because I think that even when we had lost here against Vancouver, the performance was good. What we created today it was probably our worst performance this season. We were flat. When we scored the first goal we got a little bit over-confident. We did an incredible mistake at the end of the first half that got them the goal and then they grow with it. We are giving away too many silly goals. I think that defensively we need to be better. Guys need to be better in the back. It’s too easy to score against us at the moment and this is something we need to fix for sure. So I don’t think that OKC did a lot to win. It’s more us that allowed them to get the win.”

On the previous home defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2:

“I thought Vancouver when they played here, we played well, they played well, it was two good teams but today the level of the game was bad. The level of the game was bad on both sides. But they didn’t create the mistakes we created, so at the end of the day, I think they deserved to win. It’s always a little mistake that keeps the other teams in the game. You pay the price.”

On the team’s defense:

“As a collective we need to look back at other things and have to make sure we come back to certain principles but individually we have to be better. Some pieces in the back individually have to be better.”

Swope Park Rangers defender Christian Duke
On the game:

“I thought we came out pretty strong, got an early one, just a little mistake at the very end of the first half that upped their momentum and they came out in the second half on top of us. We just need to find that winning mentality, that winning attitude and get back on track.”

On what shifted in the game:

“They came off a 120-minute game against FC Dallas (in the U.S. Open Cup), and that’s when we’ve got to recognize they’re fatigued and tired and I think that’s what showed in the first 40 minutes. Then they get that late goal that gives them momentum and gives them belief. Once we got a team under the weather than we need to step on them and we didn’t do that.”

On halting mistakes:

“I think it’s just an attitude thing, we’ve got to do all the little things right and once we do that then the mistakes will stop happening and we’ll go from there.”
