Sporting Kansas City will host LAFC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Sporting Park as the team honors local heroes with the club's annual Sporting Salutes theme night.
Tickets are available via SeatGeek, including a Community Heroes Night ticket pack featuring a Sporting Salutes hat. Sporting Style will feature an exclusive Sporting Salutes tee and fan festivities will include a pre-match flyover and a postgame patch giveaway. In addition, $1 will be donated to Folds of Honor for every Budweiser and Bud Light purchased at Sporting Park on Saturday.
Sporting Kansas City is coming off a 4-3 loss at FC Dallas last weekend in which Taylor Calheira scored his first two MLS goals -- in addition to first MLS assists for Emir Karic and Kwaku Agyabeng -- as Sporting Kansas City recorded season highs in goals, expected goals, shots and shots on target.
The defeat extended SKC's winless run to seven games (0-6-1) ahead of a match-up with an LAFC side that is unbeaten in 11 straight games in the series (9-0-2), which is the longest such streak for any Sporting KC opponent and which includes an extra time victory in the 2024 U.S. Open Cup Final. Most recently, LAFC earned a 4-0 victory over SKC in July courtesy of a brace from Denis Bouanga and the game-winning goal from Son Heung-Min.
The Designated Player duo lead all Western Conference players in shots this season. Son, who captained South Korea at the World Cup and was named MLS All-Star Game MVP this summer, has five goals and 11 assists. Bouanga, a three-time MLS All-Star and MLS Best XI selection, has a team-high 12 goals and eight assists in 2026 and has historically enjoyed success against SKC with eight goal contributions (four goals, four assists) in five previous appearances.
LAFC is in the club's first season with head coach Marc Dos Santos, who was the first-ever head coach of Sporting KC II as he led the then-Swope Park Rangers to the 2016 USL Cup Final. LAFC leads the league with 13 shutouts this season -- a dozen of which have come with 39-year-old goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, in net -- while Sporting KC will be seeking the team's first clean sheet of the year on Saturday.
The visitors are unbeaten in their last four outings -- including a 2-0 victory over Red Bull New York on Wednesday with goals from 17-year-old Jude Terry and summer signing Armindo Sieb -- and continue to be a perennial power in Major League Soccer with the most points, wins and goals scored since entering MLS in 2018.
