Sporting Kansas City II

Preview: Sporting KC II to host Indy Eleven on Sunday

SKC II Team at Birmingham Legion FC - Aug. 11, 2021

Central Division counterparts Sporting Kansas City II (3-12-5, 14 points) and Indy Eleven (6-8-4, 22 points) will square off Sunday for the third time this season in a USL Championship clash at world-class Children’s Mercy Park. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. CT and the game will stream live on ESPN Plus, pitting two teams looking to reverse their recent fortunes.

Led by fourth-year head coach and former Sporting Kansas City midfielder Paulo Nagamura, Sporting KC II is aiming to bounce back into the win column after sustaining a 4-1 home defeat to Atlanta United 2 last Saturday. Defender Graham Smith nodded home his first goal of the season on an assist from midfielder Jake Davis, who signed an MLS contract on Thursday to become the 12th Academy product on Sporting’s current roster.

Davis leads SKC II with four assists this season and also has a team-best 20 chances created and 47 tackles as a well-rounded, versatile contributor to the team. Dynamic winger Enoch Mushagalusa notably leads SKC II with six goals this year, having appeared in all 20 matches.

Indy Eleven face a quick turnaround after suffering a 4-1 loss of their own on Wedneday at Loudoun United. Karl Ouimette found the back of the net in a disappointing performance from Indy, who have gone just 3-7-4 after opening the campaign 3-1-0. Interim head coach Max Rogers nevertheless has a talented squad at his disposal, with the likes of Jordan Hamilton and Manuel Arteaga bagging four goals apiece and Gordon Wild logging four assists.

Indy Eleven have won both previous meetings this season, prevailing 2-0 at home on May 22 and by a 2-1 scoreline on June 20 at Children's Mercy Park. The teams will lock horns for the fourth time on Sept. 11 in Indianapolis.
