Salloi strikes as Sporting ties Toronto 1-1 in preseason finale

Sporting Kansas City earned a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon at St. David’s Performance Center in Austin, Texas, to close out the club’s 2022 preseason, presented by Children’s Mercy.

Reigning MLS MVP finalist Daniel Salloi threatened multiple times in the first half and bagged a deserved go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute, rifling home from 20 yards after his initial effort on the edge of the box was blocked. Sporting’s lead would last until the 89th minute, as Toronto FC salvaged a late equalizer through Hugo Mbongue.

With a five-week preseason campaign in the books, Sporting Kansas City will now prepare for a highly anticipated 2022 MLS opener at Atlanta United FC next Sunday, Feb. 27. Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium is set for 2 p.m. CT with live coverage on FS1 and FOX Deportes.
