Sporting Kansas City II has signed Sporting KC Academy defender Kayden Pierre to an Academy contract, the club announced today. Under the terms of the deal, Pierre will retain his NCAA eligibility while being registered to compete in USL Championship matches for Sporting II. The signing is pending league and federation approval.
Pierre, 17, is a defender that can play in both outside back roles. He joined the Sporting KC Academy in 2018 from Vardar SC in his native Michigan. Since then, Pierre has made 59 appearances for the Academy while advancing from the Under-15 age group up to the Under-17s and Under-19s. The Rochester Hills native spent significant time training with Sporting II in 2019 and 2020.
On the international level, Pierre was most recently called in to the U.S. Under-16 National Team for a training camp in California in September 2019. His first call-up to the U.S. U-16s came in June 2018 which involved a trip to Bradenton. Prior to that, Pierre was selected for training camps with the U.S. U-14s in 2016 and 2017.
