Sporting KC Academy defender Jaylin Lindsey to join U.S. U-17 MNT for July training camp

Jaylin Lindsey U.S. U-17s - May 10, 2017

Sporting Kansas City Academy defender Jaylin Lindsey was named to the U.S. U-17 Men's National Team roster on Thursday for the team's first domestic training camp since the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, which took place in Panama from April 21 - May 7.

U.S. U-17 head coach John Hackworth has assembled a 29-man roster that will descend upon Atlanta United FC's training grounds for a nine-day training camp from July 21-29, featuring friendlies against local competition such as Tormenta FC of the Premier Development League and the Atlanta Silverbacks of the National Premier Soccer League.

The 17-year-old Lindsey joins a talented player pool for the first of four U.S. U-17 training camps that will take place prior to the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, slated for Oct. 6-28 in India. This group of players is nearing the end of its two-year cycle and will move up to the U-19 age group after the U-17 World Cup.

The U.S. U-17s were drawn into Group A of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, where they will face hosts India on Oct. 6, Ghana on Oct. 9 and Colombia on Oct. 12. The 24-team competition will see 16 teams advance to the knockout rounds, which begin Oct. 16.

In May, Lindsey was selected to the CONCACAF U-17 Championship Best XI after helping the U.S. to a second-place finish in the tournament and qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup. He started and played the full 90 minutes in five of the United States' six tournament matches, adding an assist in the opening group stage contest against Jamaica.

Lindsey has appeared in more than 20 matches for the U.S. U-17s since 2016, recording four assists. He previously represented his country at the U-15 and U-16 levels.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lindsey signed an Academy contract with the Swope Park Rangers in May 2016. He made two appearances for the club last season, including his first professional start against Real Monarchs SLC on Aug. 13, before joining the U.S. U-17 Residency Program in late August.
