Sporting KC holds three picks in MLS SuperDraft 2022

MLS SuperDraft 2022 presented by adidas will take place at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Jan. 11 and Sporting Kansas City holds a pick in each of the draft's three rounds with the No. 22 overall (first round), No. 50 overall (second round) and No. 78 overall (third round) selections.

The first round of the draft will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com and the MLS app, as well as MLS channels on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, in addition to a special 30-minute pre-draft show beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the second and third rounds of the draft via MLSsoccer.com's Draft Tracker.

On Thursday, Major League Soccer released the tentative list of176 players eligible for selection in MLS SuperDraft 2022, including Sporting Kansas City Academy product Mason Visconti and Sporting Blue Valley product Lucas Bartlett, as well as Seattle University midfielder Hal Uderitz, the son of Kansas City Wizards player Scott Uderitz (1996-1999).

In preparation for MLS SuperDraft 2022, Sporting Kansas City Technical Director and Vice President of Player Personnel Brian Bliss and Sporting Kansas City Talent Identification Director Josh Duffy attended the adidas MLS College Showcase from Dec. 10-12 in Cary, N.C. The NCAA-sanctioned event provided MLS clubs an opportunity to attend College Cup matches while also scouting and interacting with 44 top collegiate prospects participating in a series of matches, training sessions, testing and interviews.

Among players currently under contract with Sporting KC, two were selected in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft with newly-acquired defender Ben Sweat (South Florida) chosen No. 14 overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft and forward Khiry Shelton (Oregon State) taken No. 2 overall one year later. An additional three Sporting players - forward Grayson Barber (Clemson), goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh (Santa Clara) and goalkeeper Tim Melia (Lynn University) - have college experience in their careers.
