Sporting KC passes on pick in 2019 MLS End-of-Year Waiver Draft

Sporting Kansas City passed on its pick in the 2019 MLS End-of-Year Waiver Draft on Monday.


Twenty-two of 26 MLS clubs elected to pass during the End-of-Year Waiver Draft, which consisted of players who had been waived by their teams but didn’t meet the minimum years of service requirement for the Re-Entry Draft or Free Agency.


FC Cincinnati selected former Philadelphia Union midfielder Haris Medunjanin, the LA Galaxy picked former Orlando City SC defender Danilo Acosta, Minnesota United FC took former Orlando goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh, and the New England Revolution selected former New York City FC goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell. Players not selected are now free to sign with the team of their choice. 


Sporting Kansas City currently has 21 players under contract for the 2020 season:


  • Goalkeepers (2): Eric Dick, Tim Melia
  • Defenders (7): Botond Barath, Matt Besler, Andreu Fontas, Jaylin Lindsey, Luis Martins, Graham Smith, Graham Zusi
  • Midfielders (7): Gianluca Busio, Cameron Duke, Roger Espinoza, Felipe Gutierrez, Felipe Hernandez, Ilie Sanchez, Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal
  • Forwards (5): Gerso Fernandes, Tyler Freeman, Erik Hurtado, Johnny Russell, Daniel Salloi
