Sporting KC Weekly Update: Aug. 26, 2015

Graham Zusi - Sporting KC at Columbus Crew SC - August 22, 2015

SPORTING KC ON THE ROAD TO FACE COLORADO RAPIDS ON SATURDAY
Sporting Kansas City will cap off seven games in the month of August when they travel to take on the Colorado Rapids at 8 p.m. CT on Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The match will be shown live locally on KMCI-TV 38 the Spot and across the Midwest on SKCTV affiliates with three hours of on-site coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT. In addition, radio broadcasts will be available on 99.3 FM (English) and 1340 AM (Spanish).

Third-place Sporting KC (11-6-7, 40 points) and 10th-place Colorado (6-9-9, 27 points) meet Saturday for the second of three head-to-head meetings in 2015. This will be the 54th regular season meeting all-time (SKC leads 23-17-13) and 68th in all competitions (SKC leads 29-22-16). Sporting KC’s 67 matches against Colorado make the Rapids their most frequent opponent all-time.

Recent history in the head-to-head matchup favors Sporting KC, who are unbeaten in 11 straight MLS contests against Colorado dating back to 2009 with a 6-0-5 record (including postseason). Despite owning a 5-14-8 all-time regular season record in Colorado, Kansas City has not lost to the Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park since March 2009. That’s a run of five straight MLS matches including playoffs (2-0-3 record).

SPORTING KC DROPS CONSECUTIVE MATCHES TO SAN JOSE AND COLUMBUS
Sporting KC have suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in 2015 following a 3-2 defeat at the Columbus Crew SC last Saturday. Marcel de Jong and Graham Zusi twice gave Sporting KC leads on the road but Crew SC rallied in front of a sell-out crowd at MAPRE Stadium with two goals in the final 10 minutes.

The result in Ohio came three days after a 5-0 setback to the San Jose Earthquakes at Sporting Park. Sporting KC's club-record 16-game home unbeaten streak came to an end as Cordell Cato and Chris Wondolowski each scored twice for the visitors, who won in Kansas City for the first time since 2004 to snap a 10-game road losing streak in the series. Last Wednesday marked Sporting KC's first home loss of the 2015 season.
