Union Station raises Sporting KC banners in advance of club’s home opener this Saturday

Union Station

Union Station raised a pair of eye-catching Sporting KC banners on Tuesday on the exterior of the iconic building in downtown Kansas City to celebrate the club’s highly anticipated home opener this Saturday at Children’s Mercy Park.

The oversized banners will be prominently displayed in the arch windows above Union Station’s entrances on the south facade as the historic destination and the downtown skyline will be lit blue this Friday night on the eve of Sporting Kansas City’s match-up with the LA Galaxy.

Opened in 1914, Union Station has been the front porch of Kansas City for over 100 years and features year-round attractions for all ages, highlighted by an award-winning science center, a state-of-the-art planetarium and a movie theater with the largest screen in the region.

Inside the Grand Hall, guests can purchase Sporting Kansas City apparel from Rally House and co-branded products from club partner Parisi Coffee. Union Station is also served by the KC Streetcar, which recently unveiled a new Sporting KC-designed streetcar for the fourth straight year.

The site of the Kansas City Chiefs parade last month and the 2023 NFL Draft next month, Union Station holds a special place in Sporting KC history as the venue memorably hosted the club’s 2013 MLS Cup celebration. This year, Sporting will commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the championship-winning campaign with a series of fan festivities and other tributes, including the team’s new Hoops 4.0 jersey which features a neck tape with the club motto “Paint The Wall” and the year 2013.
