Career Summary

Justin Bilyeu announced his retirement from professional soccer in April 2019. He will remain under contract with the Rangers through the end of the 2019 season.


2019: USL Championship: started one appearance (90 minutes played). 

2018: Bilyeu joined the Rangers in early 2018 but suffered a torn meniscus in his first week of training with the club, keeping him out until the latter stages of the season. He made his debut for the Rangers in a 1-1 road draw with LA Galaxy II on Aug. 1 and went on to play in 12 of the final 15 games of the season for the club. Bilyeu recorded one assist, serving as the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over OKC Energy FC on Sept. 2. Bilyeu played every minute of the Rangers’ two matches in the USL Cup Playoffs as the side was eliminated by Phoenix Rising FC in the Western Conference Semifinals.

2017: Played in two games with the New York Red Bulls, going the full 90 minutes in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on February 22 and in a loss to Seattle Sounders FC in MLS play on March 19. Bilyeu appeared in 27 total games in USL play, spending the first half of the season with New York Red Bulls II and the second half with Rio Grande Valley FC. Bilyeu added a total of one goal and eight assists from the backline across the entire season. He played in 14 games for the Red Bulls to start the season, adding four assists. Bilyeu recorded his first assist against Orlando City B on April 14 before adding his second a week later against the Rochester Rhinos on April. He tallied his third assist in as many games in a 3-1 win over the Harrisburg City Islanders on May 6. Bilyeu’s final assist came in his final game for the club – a 2-2 draw with the Ottawa Fury on June 24.

From there, Bilyeu was waived by the Red Bulls and signed with Rio Grande Valley FC on August 2, 2017. He recorded his first assist for his new club on August 19 versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 before adding another against Portland Timbers 2 on August 30. Bilyeu scored his first goal of the season with the game-winner against Reno 1868 FC on September 16 before recording further assists in his new two games against San Antonio FC on September 23 and the Swope Park Rangers on September 30.

2016: Bilyeu was selected in the First Round (18th overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls and signed an MLS contract with the club at the end of preseason. He made his professional debut on April 10 in a 4-0 win over Bethlehem Steel FC and went on to make 15 appearances in USL action – scoring once in a 2-1 victory over FC Cincinnati on July 20 – as Red Bulls II won the USL Regular Season Championship and the USL Cup. Bilyeu made his MLS debut on April 29 in a 4-0 win over FC Dallas and made a total of eight appearances for the Red Bulls first team in MLS, U.S. Open Cup and CONCACAF Champions League play.

College: Bilyeu played collegiate soccer at SIU Edwardsville, appearing in 59 games for the Cougars, tallying five goals and seven assists. He was named to the NSCAA Third Team All-West Region and the Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference. He was also named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team after his junior season. While in college, Bilyeu also made seven appearances for USL Premier Development League club FC Tucson.

High School: Bilyeu attended Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, where he won a Missouri state championship in 2009, and was voted to the All-State team during his senior year.
