Sporting Kansas City is teaming up with the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District to collect new and gently used books for the “What Are You Reading?” initiative at the team’s next two matches at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park:
• 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, August 17th vs. Portland Timbers
• 7:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, August 21st vs. D.C. United
Individuals who bring 10 or more new and/or gently used books to either game will receive a complimentary general admission ticket to the match. The tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are based on availability.
Collection bins will be located at the East and West Stand entrances for both matches. The book drive aims to collect books for all grade-levels to provide in classrooms for K-12 students.
“We are so appreciative of Sporting Kansas City’s partnership in our Book Drive,” said Dr. Cindy Lane, superintendent of schools. “Reading is critical to our students’ success in school and in their futures. By providing them with a variety of reading material, we are enhancing their reading skills and fostering in them a love of reading, which we hope they will carry with them throughout their lives.”
The “What Are You Reading?” initiative was developed by Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, in partnership with the KCK Chamber of Commerce, to change lives through reading. Visit the program’s official Facebook page for more information.
