Preseason Recap: Swope Park Rangers claim 4-1 win over Rockhurst University

SPR 4-1 Rockhurst

The Swope Park Rangers claimed a 4-1 victory over Rockhurst University at Swope Soccer Village on Saturday afternoon. First-half goals from Tyler Pasher, Amer Didic and Kris Tyrpak put the Rangers in a commanding position before Mark Anthony Gonzalez sealed the win in the second half.

The Rangers began the game quickly and almost went ahead in the second minute when Pasher was slipped into the area and saw his shot saved before Tyrpak’s rebound struck the outside of the post.

Pasher wasn’t to be denied, however, and put the Rangers ahead three minutes later. Tyrpak whipped in a cross from the right that Pasher controlled with his back to goal, turned his man and slammed the ball into the roof of the net to make the score 1-0.

In the 19th minute, Pasher turned provider as his corner kick from the left was met by Didic who looped a header over the goalkeeper, a defender on the line and into the top corner. Rockhurst pulled a goal back three minutes later when Gianluca Bottoni found himself free in the area and clipped a finish over Jon Kempin and into the net.

The Rangers reestablished their two-goal lead just five minutes later, with Tomas Granitto sending a cross to the back post where Tyrpak towered over his man and headed into the bottom corner to make the halftime score 3-1.

The Rangers continued their dominance in the second half, with Pasher twice going close early on and Nansel Selbol seeing a low effort saved. In the 74th minute, the Rangers extended their lead with Selbol slipping a ball down the right channel for substitute Gonzalez, who had only been on the field for four minutes, and he beat his man for pace and smashed the ball off the post and in from a tight angle to make the final score 4-1.
