Sporting Kansas City (9-4-10, 37 points) extended its lead atop the Western Conference standings to three points with a 1-1 draw against Atlanta United FC on Sunday at sold-out Children's Mercy Park. The team will now shift its immediate attention to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, where Sporting KC will host the San Jose Earthquakes in Wednesday's all-important semifinal showdown at 7:30 p.m. CT. Tickets for the match are available at SeatGeek.com as Manager Peter Vermes' men continue their pursuit of the club's fourth Open Cup title. Sports Radio 810 WHB will broadcast the game live with pregame coverage beginning at 7:15 p.m., while SportingKC.com will stream the contest in its entirety.
Following Wednesday's Open Cup battle, Sporting Kansas City will return to MLS regular season play by visiting Seattle Sounders FC (9-7-7, 34 points) for a 3 p.m. CT kickoff at CenturyLink Field. FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest Plus and FOX Sports GO will provide three hours of live coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT, while listeners can follow the action on ESPN 99.3 FM (English) and La Grande 1340 AM (Spanish). In addition, The Final Whistle postgame show will air immediately following the match on ESPN 99.3 FM.
Supporters are invited to the official watch party for Saturday's game at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District (1370 Grand Blvd.). No Other Pub will offer a variety of drink specials beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT, including 16-oz. Corona cans for $5, as well as an all-you-can-eat buffet with bottomless domestic drafts.
The Swope Park Rangers (12-5-3, 39 points) kept hold of third place in the United Soccer League's Western Conference following a 0-0 draw at in-state rivals Saint Louis FC on Saturday. SPR will now return home this Saturday to face Orange County SC (7-5-5, 26 points), with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT at Children's Mercy Victory Field inside Swope Soccer Village. In partnership with the Truman Library Institute, the first 1,000 fans to the match will receive a Harry and Bess Truman Train Car bobblehead, paying tribute to the former U.S. President who grew up in nearby Independence, Missouri.
