As longest tenured MLS coach, Peter Vermes ranks among the best in the business

Since the start of 2017, seven MLS head coaches have left their respective clubs. That's the largest number of coaching changes in a single year during Major League Soccer's 22-year history.

Amidst the constant coaching shuffle, Peter Vermes has continued to go about his business as Manager and Technical Director of Sporting Kansas City. After laying foundations in his first two years at the helm, Vermes has guided Sporting KC to seven consecutive playoff appearances, won an MLS Cup and lifted three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups.

On the whole, Vermes' body of work sits among the very best of the current coaching crop. His four major trophies rank second among active MLS coaches, while his 115 regular-season victories rank third.

Vermes' reign in Kansas City can be characterized not only by success, but by stability. Since Sporting KC hoisted the MLS Cup in 2013, only two teams have remained with their current head coach. Joining Vermes in that club is D.C. United boss Ben Olsen, who is poised to begin his ninth season in 2018.

The tables below give a picture of how the active MLS coaches stack up, with the Portland Timbers and Colorado Rapids not represented due to their current managerial vacancies.
