The Swope Park Rangers (9-7-5, 6th place) will take on LA Galaxy II (5-11-4, 15th place) at 9:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday at StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium in the first of two games this week in Southern California.
First up is an LA Galaxy II side looking to bounce back after two straight home losses, falling 4-1 against Reno 1868 FC on July 11 and suffering a 4-3 defeat versus Portland Timbers FC 2 on Saturday. Nineteen-year-old defender Diedie Traore earned an assist for Los Dos in his USL debut against T2 after participating in open tryouts with the club in January and featuring for the LA Galaxy Academy this spring.
LA Galaxy II are led in scoring by 20-year-old forward Ethan Zubak with nine goals in 20 appearances and 16-year-old midfielder Efrain Alvarez with eight goals in eight games played. Alvarez will compete in the 2018 MLS Homegrown Game tonight in Atlanta before joining the Mexico Under-17 Men’s National Team in Costa Rica.
The Rangers will kick off an action-packed August on Wednesday with their first of six games in the month. Following the mid-week match with LA Galaxy II, SPR will remain in Los Angeles for a rematch with Orange County SC on Saturday.
Winless in the past four outings and shut out in back-to-back matches, the Rangers enjoyed a nine-day break between games heading into Wednesday’s showdown. SPR is a perfect 4-0-0 all-time against LA Galaxy II, including a 1-0 road victory over Los Dos last June.
