Awaiting Manager Peter Vermes' men in will be the upstart Philadelphia Union, which beat the New England Revolution by a 1-0 scoreline last weekend.
Thursday's quarterfinal clash will serve as a notable rematch of the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final, which saw Sporting edge the Union on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw through regulation at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. The stakes are similarly high this time around, as Sporting and Philadelphia both have their eyes on a 2021 Concacaf Champions League berth that goes to the tournament winner.
