Sporting KC Show presented by Michelob Ultra: Amadou Dia reflects on MLS is Back, looks ahead to continued regular season

Running throughout the season on Sports Radio 810 WHB, the Sporting Kansas City Show is available on several podcast hubs including Spotify and iTunes as well as SportingKC.com/SportingKCShow. With Nate Bukaty, Carter Augustine and Aly Trost hosting the weekly program, Sporting fans have a place to go to catch up on club storylines, guest interviews and more.

Back in Kansas City after spending a month in the Walt Disney World bubble for the MLS is Back Tournament, left back Amadou Dia had plenty of stories to tell during the newest episode of the Sporting Kansas City Show, presented by Michelob Ultra.

Dia, who spent his first two professional seasons at Sporting from 2015-2016, returned for his second stint at the club in January and made three appearances in the historic MLS is Back Tournament as Sporting reached the quarterfinals before falling to the Philadelphia Union last Thursday.

The 27-year-old defender delivered strong performances throughout the tournament and figures to be an important piece of the Sporting backline as Manager Peter Vermes' men prepare for the resumption of the 2020 MLS regular season in the coming weeks. Dia has bolstered Sporting's defense on the heels of a successful three-year stint at Phoenix Rising FC in the USL Championship.

Sporting Kansas City Show hosts Nate Bukaty, Carter Augustine and Aly Trost provided a comprehensive recap of the club's showing in the MLS is Back Tournament, conducted a long-form interview with Dia and also welcomed Kansas City native Shea Groom, a talented National Women's Soccer League forward who helped the Houston Dash win the NWSL Challenge Cup in Utah last month.

The NWSL Challenge Cup ran from June 27 to July 26 in Sandy, Utah, where Groom scored a tournament-best three goals including one in Houston's 2-0 defeat of the Chicago Red Stars in the championship.

With Sporting’s participation in the MLS is Back Tournament now complete, Dia and his teammates have begun preparations for the resumption of the 2020 MLS campaign. MLS plans to continue its 25th season with a revised schedule, followed by the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and Audi MLS Cup. More details are expected to be announced very soon.
