Top-seeded Sporting KC to host 4-seed Minnesota United FC in Western Conference Semifinals on Dec. 1 or 2

After beating the San Jose Earthquakes on penalty kicks following a 3-3 draw in Sunday's scintillating Round One showdown at Children's Mercy Park, top-seeded Sporting Kansas City has advanced to host No. 4 seed Minnesota United FC in the Western Conference Semifinals of the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.

The highly anticipated match between Sporting and Minnesota will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 1 or Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Children's Mercy Park. Major League Soccer will announce the schedule for the Conference Semifinals in the coming days.

Tickets for Sporting's next playoff game will be available exclusively to Season Ticket Members during a 24-hour presale beginning this Monday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. CT. Remaining tickets available will then go on sale to the general public via SeatGeek.com starting this Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 10 a.m. CT.

Sporting and Minnesota have met 13 times across all competitions since the Loons joined MLS in 2017. Three of those meetings have taken place in 2020, including a 2-1 Minnesota victory at the MLS is Back Tournament on July 12, a 2-1 road triumph for Sporting on Aug. 21, and a 1-0 decision on Sept. 13 that saw Johnny Russell bag Sporting’s late game-winner at Children's Mercy Park.

Sporting owns a 7-4-2 record against Minnesota in all competitions, including a perfect 6-0-0 mark at home. The Loons have been outscored 15-1 on their six previous visits to Kansas City.

The conference semifinal matchup at Children's Mercy Park will feature a pair of in-form teams. Sporting went 6-1-1 from the start of October to the end of the regular season, earning the top seed in the West before eliminating San Jose in Round One. Minnesota, meanwhile, boasts a nine-game unbeaten run after finishing the regular season 4-0-4 and claiming a 3-0 triumph over the Colorado Rapids in their Round One contest.
