Sporting Kansas City II

Preview: Sporting KC II set for FC Tulsa road test on Wednesday

Sporting Kansas City II (1-3-4, 7 points) will play for their fourth straight result on Wednesday night when they travel to face FC Tulsa (3-3-0, 9 points) in the third head-to-head meeting between the Central Division rivals this season. Kickoff at ONEOK Field is slated for 7 p.m. CT and the contest will stream live on ESPN Plus.

Led by fourth-year head coach and former Sporting KC midfielder Paulo Nagamura, SKC II extended their unbeaten run to three matches last Wednesday with an exciting 2-2 draw at Atlanta United 2. Winger Enoch Mushagalusa provided two excellent goals in the second half, while the hosts struck through Bradley Kamdem Fewo and Coleman Gannon.

Seven different players have accounted for Sporting KC II’s eight goals this season. Mushagalusa is the lone player with two, while Dominik Resetar and Rojay Smith as well as Sporting KC loanees Grayson Barber, Cam Duke, Tyler Freeman and Kaveh Rad have one each. The scoring-by-committee approach has picked up pace over the last twho games, which have seen SKC II bag six goals. The team managed just two in their first six fixtures.

Sporting KC II owns an impressive 8-1-1 all-time record against FC Tulsa in the USL Championship, including a 2-0 road loss on May 1 and a 4-1 home triumph on June 2. Smith, Barber, Duke and Rad all opened their professional scoring accounts in the emphatic victory at Children's Mercy Park, which was the second setback in Tulsa's current three-game losing streak. Head coach Michael Nsien's side kicked off 2021 with three consecutive wins before falling to Atlanta United 2, SKC II and Birmingham Legion FC in recent weeks.
