Late last month, Sporting KC II fell 2-1 to LAFC at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, California. After netting two first half goals, LA staved off a late comeback effort from SKC II that saw Ty Haas tally his second goal, and goalkeeper Jacob Molinaor nearly provide a heroic moment on the final play of the match.
Head coach Lee Tschantret's Sporting side has found a solid run of form in their last four home games, earning three results in those games. It started with back-to-back wins over MNUFC 2 and playoff outfit Houston Dynamo 2. They then earned a 2-2 draw against Colorado Rapids 2 before suffering a slim defeat against St Louis CITY2.
Haas has been a solid piece for Kansas City after earning his pro debut against North Texas SC on April 4. The SKC Academy amateur has two goals and two assists in 21 appearances and is nearing the 1000-minute mark. His second assist came last Saturday when he teed up forward Tega Ikoba's seventh goal of the campaign. Ikoba is tied with forwards Kashan Hines and Missael Rodriguez for the team lead in goals. Rodriguez also has two assists making him the team leader in goal contributions with nine.
In the midfield, Blaine Mabie has been the most consistent starter, starting 19 of his 22 appearances and amassing 1642 minutes. The co-captain also has one goal. Shane Donovan, who has split his time between the midfield and out wide in the front three has also been a key contributor. The SKC Academy alum has four goals and three assists in 25 starts.
In defense, co-captain Pierre Lurot has been the guiding light. He is the only player for SKC II to start every game and has not missed a minute this season. He is tied with Whitecaps FC 2 defender Micaah Garnette in minutes played (2340). Former SKC Academy goalkeepers Jacob Molinaro and Jack Kortkamp have split duties this season. Molinaro has made 50 saves in 14 starts while Kortkamp has stopped 43 attempts in 12 appearances.
LAFC 2 is led by head coach Fabian Sandoval who has the Black and Gold second team six points clear of the playoff cut line. They are also four points ahead of North Texas SC in eighth meaning they would avoid the play in game if they pick up any points on Sunday.
Following the home finale, SKC II will conclude 2026 with a Decision Day matchup with Houston Dynamo 2 at SaberCats Stadium on Sunday, September 22. The game will kick at 4 p.m. CT alongside all other Western Conference games and can be streamed at MLSNEXTPro.com and in the OneFootball app.
