SKCvIND Quotes: "We should have gotten something out of it"

Sporting KC II starting XI - Sporting KC II vs. Indy Eleven - June 20, 2021

Sporting Kansas City forward Enoch Mushagalusa

On scoring three goals in as many matches…

It feels good to be in form and to keep improving. It’s all about the teamwork—the coaches and the teammates pushing me. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be in those great spots. It’s God’s gift for the talent. I feel great and hope to keep scoring.

On cutting into the middle and getting off a lot of shots…

It’s a lot of practice. I have been practicing that a lot and coach (Nagamura) is telling me, ‘Don’t even think, just cut in and shoot.’ Those goals against Atlanta were cutting in and shooting. The goal today was the same. It’s been really good getting advice from a top coach.

On the hot temperatures and difficult playing conditions…

It’s really hot but we are Sporting fit. Here at Sporting, you have to be fit. I’m glad our trainers are pushing us hard. We usually have training at 2:30 so we’re really used to the heat. I wasn’t even tired at the end of the game, which is great.

Sporting Kansas City II head coach Paulo Nagamura

On his team’s performance in the 2-1 loss…

“Overall, it was a fair performance. I think we created lots of chances as put ourselves in a place to at least get a tie. You can’t win if you don’t finish your chances and today we ended up getting nothing. To be honest, I think we had the best chances. We were more in control of the game overall, if you look at all 90 minutes. But Indy has quality players who will make you play. We had a giveaway in the first half and fell asleep on their second goal. When I’m analyzing the game, it’s another one where we will look back and should have gotten something out of it.”

On the form of forward Enoch Mushagalusa…

“Enoch was our most dangerous guy attacking-wise. He’s in good form right now and creating a lot of opportunities and plays in the final third. Today he scored another great goal and hit the post. He took players on, as well, but this game is not won on individual performances. You’ve got to make sure the rest of the guys on the field are performing well, too. I’m pleased with his performance but disappointed with the result.”

On a quick turnaround facing OKC Energy FC on Wednesday…

“We have games coming fast—three games in seven days. We’ll assess the guys tomorrow to see who is ready for Wednesday and who is not. They’re going to have opportunities. Whatever lineup we choose, it’s a an opportunity for each of the guys to perform. Hopefully they can do that moving forward.”
