Sporting KC II signs forward Trajan Wormington to MLS NEXT Pro amateur contract

SKC II Player Signing (single player)

Sporting Kansas City II announced today that the club has signed Sporting Kansas City Academy forward Trajan Wormington to an MLS NEXT Pro amateur contract. Wormington has inked an amateur contract on a single-game basis, preserving his NCAA eligibility.

Wormington, a 16-year-old attacking player born and raised in Springfield, Missouri, joined the Sporting KC Academy ahead of the 2021 season. Representing the team at the U-15, U-17 and U-19 levels, he has been a key figure for the Academy at two Generation Adidas Cups and two editions of the MLS NEXT Playoffs.

During the 2022-23 season, Wormington scored twice across the first two Generation adidas Cup group stage matches, helping the U-17s to advance to the knockout stage at the prestigious tournament. He scored the team’s opening goal in a 2-0 win over Charlotte FC and helped guide them past Liga MX side Atlas FC in the following match.

Led by second-year head coach and longtime Sporting great Benny Feilhaber, Sporting KC II will resume their 2023 campaign on Saturday by hosting MNUFC2 at 7 p.m. CT at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas. The contest will stream live on MLSNEXTPro.com and tickets are available at SeatGeek.com for only $10.
