Brooks Thompson honored with USL Championship Fans' Choice Save of the Week

Brooks Thompson

Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Brooks Thompson is the Fans' Choice Save of the Week winner for Week 10 of the USL Championship campaign.

The 19-year-old Sporting KC Academy product made six saves in Sporting Kansas City II's 3-2 road win at Memphis 901 FC last Saturday, highlighted by a one-handed reflex save to push Michael Salazar's header from eight yards out over the crossbar in the 62nd minute.

One of five finalists nominated for the league's Fans' Choice Save of the Week, Thompson received an overwhelming 71 percent of the vote.

Thompson has made three starts for Sporting Kansas City II in 2021 since recovering from injury and has recorded 11 saves, including a penalty save on June 23. The Indiana native led Sporting KC II goalkeepers during the shortened 2020 campaign with 26 saves -- headlined by the USL Championship Fans' Choice Save of the Year runner-up -- and a 1.17 goals against average in six matches.

Thompson joined the Sporting KC Academy in the summer of 2018. After logging two preseason appearances for the Sporting KC first team in early 2019, the 6'3 goalkeeper made his jump to the USL Championship as the youngest professional signing in Sporting KC II history at age 16 and made his pro debut on July 17, 2019 at Children's Mercy Park.
