Johnny Russell's sweet strike vs. Montreal up for MLS Goal of the Week

Of the seven goals Sporting Kansas City racked up in a record-breaking 7-1 win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday, arguably none were better than the very first.

Johnny Russell's left-footed firecracker in the 10th minute gave Sporting an early lead and set Manager Peter Vermes' men on their way to one of the most lopsided victories in MLS history. The strike is also one of five nominees for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week for Week 5. Fan can cast their Goal of the Week vote at MLSsoccer.com through 2 a.m. CT Thursday.

Russell is up for the weekly award alongside some of the league's biggest names. Philadelphia Union's David Accam, Toronto FC's Alejandro Pozuelo, D.C. United's Wayne Rooney and LAFC's Carlos Vela are the other players on the Week 5 ballot.

With an emphatic victory under their belts, Russell and Sporting will now shift their attention to the Concacaf Champions League Semifinals versus Mexican giants CF Monterrey. The first leg of the series is slated for Thursday at world-class Estadio BBVA Bancomer in Guadalupe, Mexico, kicking off at 9 p.m. CT with an English-language live stream on YahooSports.com and a Spanish-language broadcast on Univision Deportes.

Sporting will then host the decisive return leg on Thursday, April 11, at 8 p.m. CT. Tickets for that match remain available at SeatGeek.com
