Sporting Kansas City will take on first-place Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday as the club hosts Ted Lasso Night at Sporting Park with exclusive giveaways, in-stadium activations and limited-edition merchandise for purchase.
Tickets are available on SeatGeek, including the Coca-Cola Family & Friends 4-Pack featuring four Price Chopper South Stand tickets, four 20-ounce Coca-Cola products and four concession items for only $100. In addition, College Night ticket packs include co-branded scarves for six local schools (MU, KU, K-State, UMKC, Rockhurst and JCCC).
The Western Conference clash will feature teams on opposite ends of the Western Conference table with 10 weeks remaining in the regular season. Sporting has scored the fewest goals and conceded the most in the West, while Vancouver has scored the most goals and conceded the fewest in the conference.
Led by head coach Jesper Sorensen, Vancouver finished runners-up in Concacaf Champions Cup and MLS Cup in the Danish manager's first season in 2025 in addition to winning a fourth straight Canadian Championship. The Whitecaps, who are coming off an emphatic 5-0 victory over FC Dallas last weekend, will arrive in Kansas City with a mid-week match looming against CF Montreal in the Canadian Championship semifinals.
The Whitecaps roster is headlined by German World Cup winner Thomas Muller, who has 21 goal contributions (13 goals, eight assists) in 24 regular season appearances. The 36-year-old MLS All-Star is joined in the attack by fellow Designated Player Ryan Gauld -- who missed the first half of the season due to injury -- and Brian White, who has a team-best 13 goals in all competitions this season to become one of four players in MLS history to score a dozen or more goals in five seasons with a single club.
Defensively, Vancouver is anchored in net by goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka - who boasts the best goals against average in MLS (0.80) -- and MLS All-Star Andres Cubas in the midfield. Cubas leads MLS in tackles won (45) and represented Paraguay at this summer's FIFA World Cup.
Sporting Kansas City narrowly leads the all-time regular season series (12-11-5), however Vancouver has won each of the last five meetings including a 3-0 result in April. Entering this weekend's rematch, both sides have been active in Major League Soccer's secondary transfer window, which closes next week, as Vancouver sold U.S. Men's National Team midfielder Sebastian Berhalter to Middlesbrough FC and brought in four players that have yet to debut in Aleksa Cvetkovic, Emrick Fotsing, Kwasi Poku and Sebastian Ramirez.
Sporting Kansas City has paid the most in transfer fees, according to Transfermarkt, of any team in Major League Soccer this summer to bring in left back Emir Karic, center back Moises Mosquera, midfielder Owen Wolff and forward Andre Luiz. Wolff (club-record cash trade with Austin FC) and Luiz (club-record transfer from Olympiacos) both arrived in Kansas City this week.
